General Counsel
(a.k.a. Etherealize’s Legal Navigator)
Why Etherealize?
Etherealize is the policy, marketing, and institutional outreach arm behind Ethereum’s next decade of progress. We lobby on Capitol Hill, work with Wall Street, and partner with global institutions to expand Ethereum’s reach to the next stage of blockchain adoption: the real world. As our in-house General Counsel, you will architect the legal framework that lets institutions transact on-chain with confidence and help write the rules that govern the world’s most important smart-contract platform.
What Will You Do?
- [50%] Product regulatory & compliance strategy. Map SEC, CFTC, FINRA, UCC, state, and global rules to on-chain products; craft compliant pathways for on-chain products to thrive.
- [20%] External counsel management. Oversee specialized lawyers across different asset classes and integrate their counsel into a coherent legal strategy for each asset class we target and for the company as a whole; ensure efficient use of resources.
- [20%] Policy advocacy. Interface with regulators, legislators, and think tanks; author comment letters and testify (publicly or behind the scenes) to advance Ethereum-friendly rules; stay abreast of policy changes and keep the team informed.
- [10%] Internal legal counsel. Manage internal legal affairs, including cap table management, board processes, subsidiary management, contract drafting with institutional partners, and any other internal legal needs.
Who Are You?
- Juris Doctor. You hold a ****JD from an accredited U.S. law school and are licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Deep domain operator. You’ve spent 7-10+ years navigating securities, commodities, or payments law and have a deep understanding of these domains, ideally with experience at a top DeFi, fintech, crypto exchange, or capital markets practice.
- Intimately familiar with Ethereum. You’ve spent significant time using Ethereum and understand how it works. Concepts like rollups, MEV, and ERC-3643 aren’t just jargon to you — they represent real challenges and opportunities in legal and product design.
- Creative first-principles thinker. You’re the type who asks “Why?” and sees beyond just the current rules. You think for yourself and have fully-formed opinions on how the law can evolve to best facilitate tokenization and the mission of real world Ethereum. You can map existing and future legal frameworks onto regulatory-compliant products.
- [Preferred] International regulatory experience. You’ve had hands-on exposure to international regulatory frameworks, whether advising on cross-border transactions, navigating foreign compliance regimes, or supporting global expansion initiatives. Not required, but highly desirable as Etherealize expands globally.
What’s In It For You?
- Lead the frontier of blockchain law. Etherealize is tasked with helping the real world move on-chain. As GC, you will be at the forefront of this movement, effectively using your legal understanding to pinpoint the most important needs for the community and shaping how institutions issue, trade, and use assets on Ethereum.
- Scope & autonomy. You’ll have full ownership of the legal function from day one – spanning regulatory strategy, contracts, product counsel, governance, and fundraising. You’ll be a core leader within the company and shape our legal posture as we scale.
- Impact the future of the financial system. Help keep Ethereum open, neutral, and institution-ready worldwide. If you do your job right, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the global financial system.
